Default Spring Break 2017-Pyramid Lake

Im going to Vegas to pick up a new car over spring break and I figured I might as well hit up Pyramid...especially considering I have time off. I remember other people saying they were going to check it out this spring...anyone gonna be out there early March? Its a long shot but it'd be cool to fish with a forum member out there. I'm gonna to be staying at my aunts friends house that's like fifteen minutes from the lake so I'm pretty pumped on that. Last time I stayed at some crappy casino in Reno. I learned a lot last time with respect to things I would do or wouldn't do and i really wanna be able to get my swimbait rod out there this time. Last time I just had my fly rods and a spinning rod. Has anyone here checked a full sized rod in a rod case on a plane before? I think I've done it before but not with a rod as long as my swimbait rod. I guess I should call the airline. Worst case scenario I'll buy a rod that breaks down or something.

One piece is gonna be oversized and I'm not sure there are rod tubes that long. Think my travel tube extends if needed but I have a few two piece travel rods -- no way a one piece will fit. I have actually been looking for a two piece swimbait rod but can't seem to find anything unless I go custom. Let me know what you find!

This is a hell of a good rod for travel. I'm sure you can find a better price than this, but make sure to get the one with 2 tips... versatile and nice action.

How long is your swimbait rod?
My bazooka style rod case stretches out to accommodate an 8' rod, no problem at airports.

I have one of those in the heavy action, great for jigging/trolling not so good casting.
Can't beat the convenience of a travel rod though.

get a piece of PVC and caps, seal good with shipping tape, then ship out to your aunts friend 2 weeks early so they can let you know it arrived before you leave. UPS is way cheaper than an air line. also that country can get bad snow in march

Heard March is the time of year to be there, which makes sense considering the lake is in Nevada and the cutties should be in shallower/ closer to shore then. Stick a giant!
