Default striped bass or wiper?

How do you tell the difference between white bass striped bass or wipers? I heard it was something to do with the number of teeth patches on the tongue, but cant remember.

Striped bass:

Wiper:

Here's some stuff I found:
Quote:
While each is predominately white; side-by-side comparison tells them apart. Wipers have a bold stripe pattern. White bass stripes are less pronounced. Wipers take on more of a sleek 'torpedo' shape. "The most obvious difference, though, is the tongue patch," says Mack. "On a white bass, there is a 'U' shaped patch on the top of the tongue. On a wiper, the patch resembles two small unconnected ovals."
I had looked up the difference between a wiper and white bass early this spring when I caught a baby wiper somewhere I didn't expect them to be.  There is a difference in the fins if I remember correctly and that is the only way to tell them apart when they are young (other than the quote I posted above).  One thing about that quote, it claims wipers are more torpedo shaped, maybe compared to white bass, but certainly not compared to striped bass.

Here's a link to a white bass/wiper comparison...

I wish I could find the info I had about the fin differences.

A wiper will have noticable breaks in the lines or "stripes" They are lighter in color and yes there is something about the teeth paterns which I don't have a clue about.

A white bass is much smaller, and basically looks like a mini striper/wiper without the predominent stripes. They have subtle stripes, but not blatent.

wow thanks for the posts I was catching smaller fish in a private lake that does not get stocked so I figured the fish I was cathing were either white or striped bass. Then when I fished the pueblo res I caught smaller fish that were the same and was told the were small wipers. The only thing I dont get is these fish all seemed to have three pathes of teeth on their tongues two on the sides and one larger one just behind them, guess now I am going to have to some more inspecting.
