So, I cant sleep - no surprise there right.  Anyway, Ive been researching the Major hatches of colorado.  Going through my journals, books, websites etc. and I put most of the major hatche I have run into on one chart.  Now, the information came from the major sources of Fly Fishing Colroados Front Range by Todd Hossman, Colorado Flyfishing.  Flyfishers Guide to Colorado by Marty Bartholomew and AK best.

Everything else came from websites and my own notes.

Anyway, Ive been asked a bunch on How I know whats hacthing etc.  Most of it is experience and just being on the water over the years, but I figured a Hatch chart would help those that are learning and havent put as much time in yet.

One disclosure is that the dates etc. do vary based on weather.  Colder years will bush back hatches and warmer ones speed them up.  Figure weather can result to a couple weeks on either side.

Sweet.  I agree that weather patterns change things, but you have it covered real good.  What if there was a collaboration on the major drainages in Colorado, and which flies predominate during the different seasons?  Like, say, the Arkansas and the late spring caddis hatch, the stoneflies that are prevalent during 3/4 of the year, etc.

I'm sure the folks on here would all provide info to build a matrix of rivers and hatches?

Just a thought

LOL.  I resemble that remark!  In contrast, we in Texas encourage you to visit and please feel free to lighten your walets before leaving.

Got Fish?

Jamey, this hatch chart is mighty handy. Now, do you know of anywhere where there's  a hatch chart for stillwater critters like callibaetis, chironomids, damselflies, dragonflies, etc?

P.S. Texans have a Winnebago exoskeleton, a mating call of "Howdy, y'all", and are frequently preceded by the roar of a diesel engine. Best defense = tell them there's a good church around the corner and they'll go a'lookin.
