...and catch that many fish to survive!  That is ridiculous!

That is subjective based on your personal situation - you don't know everyone's financial situation and it wouldn't be fair to judge

Show me a link that says they want you to keep that many fish...

Here's the link...

http://www.wayneswords.com/info.htm

Which states:
STRIPERS NO LIMIT

Keep all stripers caught, especially the small ones to keep the population in balance with the forage base. Immediately put stripers on ice in cooler and fillet as soon as possible for excellent eating. The best method of keeping striped bass in the freezer is to vacuum seal fillets before freezing.

Would be no different than a stringer that size of perch out of Blue Mesa.

If you know anything about Lake Powell (which I doubt from the obvious ignorance of your post) you know that Wayne Gustaveson is the biologist responsible for that fishery.  Here's a quote from his May 24 Fishing Report:

"Stripers are at a population peak.  Shad forge is scarce in the southern lake.  There is not enough forage to feed the vast numbers of 4-5 pound stripers.  Keep all stripers caught to help balance the populations."

Next time do some reading on http://www.wayneswords.com/ before tossing out your uneducated opinions.  This fisherman did just what is being asked of folks at Lake Powell this year.  The available forage in that lake will not support the huge striper numbers that now roam there and the population is in the process of crashing.  So fisherrmen are being asked to harvest the stripers.  The only thing he might have done better was to put them on ice instead of on stringers as the eating quality may be better that way.

Shaun,  Thanks for taking the time to post the pics and share your story.  Congratulations on your success especially on your first trip.  Thats the kind of a trip you probably won't forget for a while.  I've got to figure out how to make a camping trip there next May myself.

In this day and age, it's not necessary to clear out your freezer and catch that many fish to survive!  That is ridiculous!

Easy boys!
Each of us have our own way of doing things (Catch and release vs. Slab and stab).  Don’t be too harsh on a great fishing trip and post.
As a receiver of some of those fish…..I'm glad he brought home a cooler full.  They taste pretty good!

Midgrade fuel 2 weeks ago was $3.14 at the Bullfrog gas station and $4.14 on the water at the marina.  Angry  So we didn't run very far!

Not being harsh, just saying, that is a ridiculous amount of fish to keep.  The poster said he had never caught striper, and did not mention powell was over populated

Weezy,

You sounded stupid when question something that you don't even bother to do a little research. Go educate yourself and don't try to impose your "moral and value" on others. This is a fishing report section where people tells others where the fishing is hot and how to catch them not a place for you to cry on how many fishes people kept. Just congradulate him on a sucessful fishing trip.

LOL- HOW YOU KNOW WHEN A RED-NECK REPLIES TO YOU ON A MESSAGE BOARD.

You tell me I'm stupid and need to get educated when you are unable to spell the word CONGRATULATE, SUCCESSFUL, and have horrible grammer.  I think you may want to get some E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N yourself chief.

WOW - five posts and all of them criticizing or putting someone down.  I think that's a new board record.

We did not rent a house boat; we have a 25 foot self-contained pontoon. The kids spent one night on the boat but, preferred to camp. There are hundreds of great camping spots that are accessible by boat or vehicle. The best ones we saw were only accessible by boat. We paid $3.25 at Halls Crossing store and $3.48 for fuel on the water at Halls. The lake is huge and we almost ran out of fuel. I could see black on both sides of the needle on empty when we made it to the fuel station. As far as the ridicules amount of fish goes. We are down to ˝ of the fish we brought home. There is nothing like pulling fish out of the freezer you caught, and enjoying it with your friends and family. I did preface the post and pictures with “The Utah Fish and Game dept request that you keep all the stripers you catch. The lake has too many. We happily oblige.” To explain why there is a 20+ foot stringer of fish. You can be assured not one ounce of the bounty will be wasted. If the limit was 10 fish that is what we would have kept. Many of our friends do not fish but, love to eat them. I consider myself a sportsman and a good steward of the lands. I think part of that is sharing ones success and hoping it will promote the sport of fishing and fair chase. We all have our opinions and are entitled to them. I will continue to post our adventures. OH, by the way, tonight it is blackened striper with dirty rice.
