I've heard there are some already ice fishing at Blue Mesa but only about 3 inches of ice and only in a few areas... I'm sure there should be ice up at Taylor, but hopefully someone more local can vouche... it was crazy cold up there when I was there last month and already had some ice forming and temps in Almont are suppose to be below 0 at night for the next week or so.

hard to say, they move around when it gets closer ask again. Believe it or not there are not very many fisherman targeting kokes at Blue in the winter. The elk creek marina area and canyon has been good in the past....

Kokaneeking, Bobco is right about Elk Creek. My party has had success there for the kokes. However, it can be hit and miss and they do move around like Bobco stated. Additionally, a vexilar is a must have if your seeking the kokes. Of course, that is only my opinion but I've got friends who'll second that thought.

How do you catch the kokes at Blue through the ice? Small jigs? Mealworms? Spoons? What depth? I've obviosly never caught a koke through the ice up there.

thanks for the tips bobco and checkers , i have a vexilar fl 18 and it is great , brookking waxworms are my favorite bait for kokes , i use swedish pimples i like pink and orange , also pink and orange rat finkees , never ice fished blue mesa , usually the kokes are suspended over deeper water , if you find the channel you can find the kokes

I caught a small kokanee last year on a 3.5" tube jig tipped with sucker meat at blue. There were lots of kokanee going through my area...if I would've been using a pimple I would've caught a lot. But it was only for about 15 min and the schools were thick, after that, and the whole rest of the day in several different spots, I didn't see any schools come through on the sonar.
