Default Lake Hattie near Laramie

In the days following Christmas I am going to Laramie to see some friends who recently moved up there. My buddy has never been ice fishing and is dying to go and is begging me to take him. I have heard that there are some good fish in this lake but I do not know the lake at all. I have been there once and know that it is very shallow along the south shoreline and that the water levels are way down from where it has been. I'd like for my friend to have a good first time experience and not get the skunk. Does someone have some helpful experience to lend?

I use to ice fish wyo. a couple times a yr.....can't take the cold WIND anymore* We always did our best @ Wheatland res. Pulled a lot of nice bows & browns out of there. You've got to love the wind though* If it were me,I'd have my friend come here for the ice fishing.* * * * * * * * *

Hattie is probably the windiest lake I have fished in that area. I would recommend Twin Buttes or Meeboer above Hattie and they are fairly close to it anyways. Usually the water is so murky ice fishing Hattie they can't see your offerings from more than 3 feet away. My ice shelter once blew all the way to the dam overnight at the contest there a few years ago. It was anchored down well also, but 50 mph continuous winds do havoc on them. Good luck

* * *No BS bud...About 5 years ago I took my 2 boys to the tourney there. We were all nestled away in the hut jigging, the oldest boy goes up to the camper for a sandwich and a couple minutes later all [email protected] breaks out. The wind kicked up so bad it tore my 8" lag bolts out of the ice and away we went, one minute the hole was there then it was gone...lol...I jumped out trying to stop it but it dragged me clear to the dam. When my one son came down from the camper he was laughing his a$$ off, told me if that was bad I should see the camper. The wind had picked it up and slammed it against my truck!!! Needless to say we packed up and headed home.
pikester, if I were you take him to Lake John. Its just a lil ways down the road from Hattie and a lil less ( I said little* ) WINDY!
* * Good luck & cya on the ice

That sounds like fun

I would think the ice there would be iffy at best? It needs to get cold! But I am a big chicken anyway!!
