Default New Fish flasher Aqua-Vu VPG

At BPS last weekend I saw this new product which competes with the Vexilar and Murcum and the Lowrance flashers. This one has a vertical screen and is a heated LCD screen. The screen is only gray scale instead of color. It costs $230.00 everywhere on the net and BPS.* Heres a link: http://setthehook.com/fishlocators/Aqua-VuVPG.htm* Just want to get some fed back on what people think of this product. I think it is too new for many people to have yet. Thanks

When ever something has to render pixels it will not be real time like a vex or marcum... But it's still better then nothing.

ePIC, I have to disagree. I use a Lowrance x67, and it's real time.

Love the concept but will wait to get it in color in a year or two. I'd spend $230 on a used Vexilar if you need sonar for this season. JMO. Looney

Has anyone bought and used this flasher yet ?* As much as the flashers and cameras are talked about it doesn't seem like a lot of people have them yet. I would really like to get one this season. It would help the kids and I keep busy on the ice.

Looks like it could be a decent unit to me. I personally wouldn't worry about any lag time from pixels rendering but maybe from the cold.

Anyone know how vexilars manage to get away with such low power 400watts 50 rms?

By floating the transducer they send a signal STRAIGHT down the hole. That is the key component to a vex. No wasted signal shooting off to the side. Keeps your lure in the cone where it's easy to see. Less power requirement.

Regarding the VPG, I was also interested. Did a little looking on iceshanty and found a few reviews. It seems for the most part its a smart design but still has some flaws. After they are worked out it would be worth looking at. But until then its stick with the flashers in my opinion. Anyway here is the link.
