I'm not sure about lakers, but I think most fish would look at them as a special treat. Where did you get creek chubs out here? I have a hard time finding "good" bait in Colorado.

Just make sure you use them on waters that allow live minnows, or you freeze them for the others. Sucks catching a 3lb goldfish out of the local lakes because people release them instead of keeping them or flushing them down the toliet.

Is it legal to go to a lake with live minnows that doesn't allow live minnows, kill them right before you are ready to use them, then put them down the hole? You would kill them by piercing their brain.

they are not allowed above 7000 feet if they are alive, i have found that if you put them in a plastic bag they will die and still be soft and lifelike enough for pike and lakers

I was told by a DOW guy that you are not allowed to have `in your possesion` live minnows on the high lakes if you are ON the lake.......even if you kill them before you use them. Anyone else like to add to that? I`d like to know for sure. I`ve had live suckers on 11-mile on the ice in a ziplock then killed them before I used them. I need to know just how the enforcement interprets this question..

I wouldn't run the risk of having a warden think that perhaps you were trying to use live bait...and were just telling them that you were going to kill the minnows before putting them down the hole.* There also the possibility (remote, I'll admit), that you might trip, knock over your bait bucket, and accidentally stock live minnows or suckers in a lake that would be better off without them.

It's definitely safer to kill them at home, and put them on ice (don't freeze them) before driving to the lake.* You can also use this to scare the other folks in your house at 3 AM.* They keep hearing dull thuds, some flopping, another dull thud, some more flopping, then some maniacal laughter, and then a few more thuds and more flopping.
