Default Winter Park/Frazier Advice

I dont fish central Colorado (hate ski traffic) very much but I am dropping my kid off snowboarding at Winter Park tomorrow and hanging out in the area while he boards. I know Granby isnt far away but Bernie didnt describe the best of conditions on Granby for a Granby newby to ice fish by himself. Any one know if any small lakes or ponds in the Frazier area that can be ice fished.

Thanks in advance.

About the only place I know of in Winter Park is a private pond (just as you get in to Winter Park on the right hand side). There are some ponds in Frasier next to the Safeway (across from the KFC/Taco Bell) but I don't know if you're allowed to ice fish them in the winter - they're stocked heavily in the summer.

Aside from that, back over the pass to Georgetown, keep driving to Granby, or you can drive past Granby and hit the Colorado River or even Williams Fork for an hour or so.

Good luck!

Hey Zman,

You can always take your spinning tackle and fish the open water where the canal meets shadow mountain.Turn at the Green Ridge complex. I have never seen that stretch freeze. Or just fish the canal. Take the road by the yogurt shop turn right and cross the bridge pull off on your first left walk up the hill and fish the bends in the canal. We have done well in the winter months along the canal.

Good Luck,

I second willow creek. The trout arent huge (mine usually go between 12 and 15 inches) but are fun to catch. Sometimes you can hook into a koke or two as well. I have always done well with a small teardrop jig tipped with a mealworm about 12 feet down the hole in whatever depth I'm at on that lake.

Willow Creek is good, but don't go right at Fraser. Who knows where that goes. Willow Creek Res. is about 1/2 mile before you hit Granby, take a left at the sign.
