Default Blue Mesa?

Anyone been to Blue Mesa lately? We plan on going next week for a few days since 11-mile is awful this year.

I was up at Blue Mesa last Monday (18th). Fished off the Iola boat ramp. There were several parties on the ice in that area with others seen scattered up by the Lake City Bridge and at Stevens Point. On my drive up from Montrose I saw a couple of parties east of Elk Creek in one of the coves but that was pretty much it. It is open water between Elk Creek an the middle bridge (albeit there seemed to be some skim ice around the middle bridge) and then open water right up into Sapinaro area of the lake. Saw one party out in the middle of Sapinaro but they were gone when I left at 2 pm.

The fishing seems to be slow this year if you are targeting trout or lakers. I hear perch are being caught but I haven't been targeting them so can's speak to those folks success. I fished 4 hours on Monday and didn't mark a singe fish although I moved around a bit trying to find them. The other parties I saw weren't having much luck either. One fellow and his son spent two hours on the lake fishing in about 20 feet of water and caught two small browns.

Seems (and maybe this is just me) that ice fishing at Blue Mesa just isn't the same as it was several years ago. Perhaps it might be for the laker death fleet or for other reasons (who knows) but it almost isn't worth it to take a long drive such as from the eastern slope to fish the lake. Since I live in Montrose it isn't a problem but I would hate to drive all that way and get skunked or at best catch a couple of fish for the effort.

they are catching allot of slimers and dink perch at lake city bridge, sounds like hundreds of dinks stacked up at bridge, was -13 this morning. you should be able to find some fish, quality is the question. I live 45 minutes away and have only iced it once when I got really bored lol. I would talk to slayer and find something better ha ha......
