Default Shadow Mountain

Why don't we see any hard water reports from Shadow Mnt. res near Grand Lake? Checked the archives...nothing. Someone must fish it during winter. Can anybody help a brother out?

Thanks

Shadow mountain has open water and sketchy ice due to the currents from pumping lake Granby to Grand Lake all winter. The south side has better ice but still has open water, usually catch trout, macks, and kokanee near the dam. The north side access is the only place I have seen guys go through the ice on 2 different occasions. The current there makes the shore ice real thin, 20 ft off shore the ice is much thicker.

this. the canals are constant open water.

I was there last weekend and there was an open water pool well into grand lake from the canal and the north side of shadow mtn where the canal dumps off. when I drove by the canal it was pumping pretty good. not a good idea to ice that lake unless you really know it.

We used to fish Shadow. Right out in front of the pump canal. Just gotta check the ice is all. The current is sweet. Can hang a crankbait and feel it wiggle!

Plenty of safe ice, just stay away from the open water on both ends.

North of the islands is all shallow and weedy, deep water in front of the Dam is fair for tiny Kokanee.
The entire lake is overrun with Suckers that outcompete the Rainbows and Browns for forage leaving them stunted.
Not much to report about.
