Default in line reels and line?

For those inline reel users. do you use backing line first before adding line? Where I fish the depth is not very deep. thanks in advance.

Is backing recommended or not? or should I use straight line with a florocarbon leader?

no I don't use backing on them, spools are kinda small so I go with one line.

thanks was not sure since lakes here are usually less than 25'. Did not think I needed full spool except that thin line may get caught up in thicker backing. Miss fishing and hunting Colorado but not traffic.Taking son back there this winter though.

There's two reasons for using backing. If you are using braid you need to use it to keep the braid from rotating on the reel when you get a fish. Also if you don't want to fill the whole spool with expensive line you can use a less expensive backing.

I am not using backing on mine.. prolly 50 yards of line. I don't think i will be fishing my in line in super deep water, so 50 yards should be plenty. They are so fun to fish IMO, but take some getting used to
