Default types of tubes jigs

I want to try and jig for lakers and trout thru the ice this year.
only ever used chunks of meat to catch them or power bait.
want to pro-active and try to catch a few on jigs.

not sure what type or where to get them. any info would be great

thanks

White, 3" or so tubes should do, gander has a good selection.

I've had luck on purple tubes from 3 to 5 inches, white jig head with a green twister tail, and a two tone tube (3-5") whitish bottom and a dark green back and it has two yellow eyes. All can be found at sportsmans warehouse or bass pro.

I use small tubes. I like pink and green sparkle tubes, the 1.5 inch for rainbows. Lakers, I use the 2 1/2 inch pearl pepper salted bitsy tubes by strike king. Also chartreuse, same size, and have done the white glowing ones as well, same size.

Ditto for the non-laker trout.

oh yea, do you keep these jigs on bottom and bounce them off. or keep them suspended a few inches or feet.

thanks

I like to hit the bottom and then crank the reel a few times. It also depends on what the Vex is showing me as far as fish in the area.

i adjust the slack out so the tube hits bottom at the low point of my jigging stroke. then watch the line and if it stops before it hits bottom, set the hook. each time the tube hits bottom it stirs up a little mud which simulates a craw or sucker rooting around. you will have to try different methods to find what works on any given day... good luck, we're all counting on you
