Do you really want to catch a fish that some mechanical stick caught while you were twenty feet away?

i understand that there is a search option here. i was trying to get some info and maybe get people talking a bit and get excited. if everyone used the search option everytime there would be no reason to post.
and yes catching fish on a tip-up is quite fun

HELL YEAH!!! Hand lining even a ten pound fish is not an easy task! I understand though it is not near as challenging as catching a 12" trout on a 28" pole with a drag and all

I don't know, the 10lb pike I caught on the tip-up was real easy getting through the hole. I wish I would have caught it on the pole. Even saying that, I will probably still set up a tip-up outside my hut when fishing in the hut this year.

I think it's a good topic that doesn't come up all that often. As a person who tries, fails, forgets about, then gets interested in tipup fishing about every other year, this was a timely post for me.

I'm going to be taking a tipup with me this weekend. And, to try to answer the question, I'm just going to hang a 4" whole sucker on an airplane rig in about 6-8 FOW and let it soak. I had success with tipups for northern when I lived in Wisconsin back in the college days of 1975 but haven't had any success in Colorado to speak of. The closest I got was pulling up my 8" sucker to see the stomach gone. Never did get a flag to fly on that one. Waterdogs haven't produced for me either so, rather than pay the $2 apiece I just go with a sucker.

Let us know if you land one. Good luck.

Tip-Ups seem pretty cool to me.. But they count as a rod dont they?? So if you have 2 of them you cant use a pole at all..

Might be good to use 1 tip up and also 1 pole, that is if you have a 2 pole stamp.

Tip ups kind of remind me of Jug fishing.
