Default Ice wear

With the recent below zero weather..... How do you dress to keep warm. Tryin to do an informal poll to see what the best gear to keep warm is outside of the hut. The armor suits are awsome but how many of us can afford them.

Nice pair of wool sock, Baffin mtns. boots (super warm), thin layer like under armor then some warm-up pants and some snow pants or a bib, on top an thin layer (under armor or the like) another shirt then a hoodie or smaller jacket and my snow jacket over that. O my head I wear a Typhoon Buff (look them up if you haven't seen them, pretty cool) and a beanie or some sort. Then if it's really windy I'll use some snowboarding goggles. On my hands I have one pair of gloves that's really thin and relatively worm, some wool glommits, and some snow gloves if its bad. If it gets hot I can take some layers off too.

Definitely Baffins (-140 rating) with hunting fleece lined wool socks and thin armor layer, topped with another thicker armor, wader fleece pants, hoodie, winter bibs/jacket and one of those goofy looking hats with the flaps over the two hoodies. Good to go. I hate gloves so I stick hand warmers in whatever pockets are accessible. Definitely layering is the key especially if you are in a hut.

As long as you get a GOOD pair of boots, the rest, no matter what, needs to be layered. PK

Orion hit it right on. Thin underlayers, fleece, then waterproof/windproof outer layer. Wool socks and warm boots (not too tight fitting). Light gloves for setting up and drilling holes then warm pockets while fishing. A hut with heater goes a long way towards staying warm too!

Polypro tops and bottoms, micro fleece pants covered by Precip pants, fleece jacket, Gortex shell, sock liners, wool/poly blend socks, Gortex fleece cap and Baffin (-140*) boots. I mostly fish in a heated hut and will strip a layer off usually. My feet always got cold but have been toasty with the Baffins. I take some glove liners, ice armor gloves and a very warm pair of mittens.

I keep meaning to take a pair of googles as they would be very handy if the snow is thick and/or blowing horizontal.
