Default Ever drilled through hard ice?

We all have drilled through ice through the season, and it varies in hardness with time; but have you ever hit ice so hard, if you didn't have new blades, you wouldn't get through? I don't mean you hit sand at you drilled and it dulled your blades like at Hattie. I'm talking about HARD clear ice that's hard to get the point started! In the 30 years I have iced fished, I have never seen ice that I found at Red Feather. It only happen once, and no I didn't get bad blades, that ice was just HARD! Even other ice fishers were having trouble!!!! I don't know to this day what makes the ice so hard.

Any help? Have you ever seen this?

I've only had a problem when my blades were two years old. This Stikemaster lazer mag cuts though 3ft of ice in a snap. I have seen a lot of guys struggle with a "chipper" auger alot of places though.

Being from the upper midwesy originally, I am amused at the lack of awareness I see on some of these posts. Ice augers are not "designed" around the ice conditions here. The ice is way too soft, usually, and covered with slush/water the rest of the time. The "hard" ice you speak of is just normal ice in the eyes of the people who build/design these products. That's why the auger designs struggle here. "Up North", the chips fly away in the wind. Now that, my friends, is hard ice.
