A great place to stay is the water wheel inn. It's on the west side of town and about 12 mins from the lake city bridge, which is where the inlet is and the only current safe ice. When I left Gunnison a week ago safe ice extended a couple hundred yards past the lake city bridge. Depending on the temps, there should be safe ice through the narrows including elk creek. Salmon tend to move in schools, sometimes very quickly, near structure adjacent to the channel. A jigging machine is highly recommended. Lake trout will be holding close to the bottom in 20-60 fow on points and flats that are adjacent to deeper water. Good luck, let us know how you do.

ya the water wheel is nice but can be pricey most of the motels in town are open thru the winter and offer all the amenities, at a lesser price. You are going to want to take some sucker meat along for the lakers and browns if you dont have any gene taylors usually has some good luck hope to see a report

Ifish out in front of the Iola boat dock in 40 to 45 fow. Last time I ice fished it was early Feb. and three of us landed around 40 lakers between 16 and 22 inches on tube jigs and kastmasters.Call Rocky River Cabins north of town you can probably get a cabin with cooking accomadations pretty cheap

thats a great spot for numbers, accross from there in front of the Hump at willow crk is another spot for number, small hunk of sucker meat on the jig. don't be afraid to take a limit of the sub 22" fish, the lake can handle it.

Go to boat dock area of Elk Creek Marina and make a left turn for about350-500 yards. Also go to Lake City bridge area, always catch fish at both places.
