Default ice anchor question

I just got a hut and the anchors are about 12" long with a real course thread, do you need to drill a 1/4" hole to get them started in the ice? thanks for the input in advance

I bring a small hammer with me. Lightly pound in the screws and then thread 'em into the ice. Real easy.

I'll spin my auger real quick at the two spots you want to thread them. Seems to get them going well.

I carried a power drill with me last year. But this year I have a power auger, so I need the space. lol

I'd imagine that getting them started with a little pressure will get them going just fine.

I use ice climbing anchors. They're hollow in the middle, with 3 or 4 cutting teeth on the bottom and coarse threads along the outside of the shaft. the hollow tube allows the ice plug to come out of the top while your screwing it in. They're super easy to use. Try looking for them on craigs list or ebay.
