Default Taking the Kids out Thursday

I am going to try and introduce the kids to ice fishing on Thursday and wanted to see what the forum thought would be the best place for me to take them so that they can get into some action. We all know how short kids attention spans are.

I am concidering Aurora, maybe get some perch. Cherry Creek or another local lake.

I know where I would go if it were just me but need help from you guys that have already introduced kids to the ice.

Any feedback would be great.

Similar to what coloradojaguar said - somewhere with a hot bite. Local lakes are nice for the short drive, but it can be tough and I've found it's worth driving if I want to have a better shot at turning a newbie on to some hot fishing.

Might check the ponds in Golden Gate Park (not sure how the ice is now) or maybe Georgetown or Tarryall or the Red Feathers area, which are all usually pretty good.

I would have to say Evergreen. They copuld even watch other kids eat it while trying to ice skate. Although they might decide the want to ice skate instead. There is always a lot of families there with kids and good fishing too.

I'd say Monument Lake...Easy access on and off the ice, good fishing for stockers and a McDonalds as you're leaving town.

Is dillon still hot for the Kokes? I was thinking the run might be over by now.

i would take them to aurora and fish the marina cove so get on the ice at the swim beach and go right into the cove! you can go to the end of the cove fish 10 fow and you can watch the perch swim around and take your jigs! they are not huge but the kids will love it! drill a hole in front of your bucket and another 8 inches in front of it you can watch the perch in the close hole and have your rod in the further hole! its a blast for the kids! have fun and be safe wherever you go!

i was up at west lake today and action was nonstop, stocker RB's and small browns but all you could want, gauranteed to keep a kids attention, however the wind was howling today, probably would have needed a rope for the kids today, great place for kids if the weather is nice!
