Default What happened to Chatfield?

It was late 80's to mid 90's and Chatfield was a great perch lake. My dad and I'd walk way out into the middle of the lake, I would say 50-60 FOW and we would slaughter them. For the last 15 years we go and nothing! We caught a couple of nice perch this summer, but went back to that spot through the ice and no perch. But nothing how it used to be..... any ideas of what happend?

Read an article years ago that Chatfield had a history of of lowering the lake level around the time the perch spawn. The eggs would be deposited in the brush and then be left high and dry due to the lowering of the water level.

Chatfield 20 - 25 years ago was mainly a trout lake with some walleye , bass , perch and crappie in it .... then walleyes became more important .... whriling disease came about and less and less trout got stocked , walleyes came on strong and the shad were put in for forage . Now the smallmouth have taken over and the shad fry compete and eat the food that all the other game fish fry are hungry for . Perch and crappie don't much a chance .

IGNORANT FISHERMEN who "slaughter full tailgates" of perch!!!!!! And....they're the first to complain where's the fish?
The more you fish around here, the more you will learn this...if you have an open mind.
Fishing pressure is REAL and as more people move here.... the more the pressure.

CATCH and RELEASE most of your creels and we will all be happy!!!!!!!!!!
