Default First five minutes....

Has anyone noticed that you almost always get a bite or catch a fish within the first 5 minutes of drilling a hole in the ice?

I am wondering if this happens for anybody else as well as me. Seems like every time I move, the fishing is good for about 20 minutes and then dies off......makes me think that the fish hang out in one spot a lot more than they move around.

Sounds like you have noticed the pattern -- now all you have to do is execute.

Yeah but that's a lot of damn work haahahhaa. Maybe if I had less gear......moving is a pain on the ice when you have a lot of gear, is very windy, or snowing like crazy.

You know those are the best days. That why I still like carrying my auger in one hand -- 2 rods in the next and a pocket full of bait.

I have noticed that too Kyle. I wonder if some of the fish species are conditioned with hearing a auger to food. Doesn't work for pike though, they don't like sound. I've had a number of pike take off when my neighbor comes by.

That's one of the things I like about my solo Frabill; being able to move very easily.

What I've done a few times is pop a bunch of holes in a area and hop scotch around to different holes. Alot of times I'll nail a fish almost immediately. Even though I wasn't getting bit only 15-20 away after a while.

Were these listed in the "Crappolla I drag out on the ice thread"? You are creative, hobie!

I was mainly going by if I had a pike staring at my bait and someone came walking over to or by my hut, they would take off. Plus, Clint, has always told me to be as quiet as possible. I'll blame my previous opinion on him.

I'll have to try some of those tactics if it gets slow.
