despite what others might try to tell you this lake wont have safe ice till around thanksgiving. and with this latest warm weather that may be pushing it. even though its small its also very deep and windy so it takes awhile for ice to form.

I have to agree with littlemac on this. Jefferson is one of the last lakes to thaw in the spring, but it's also one of the last to freeze up with safe ice in the fall. I remember hearing that even when you do get ice up there the big winds can come up and break it apart at 6 inches! Plan on after Thanksgiving.

What up, littlemac?
I agree, Thankgiving magic, hopefully. But by end of January, look for almost 4 feet of ice.

I'm not going up there until it's solid. Why risk it. For sure January, Feb, March, and April. A little december, maybe some may. Overall, that's 1/4 of the year, going for lakers on ice at various spots. The rest is just bonus.

Sometimes first few weeks of December. Now or next week. No way.

that place does get some wacky ice on it, but once it gets a permanent lid it grows crazy fast, you will be looking for an auger extension to be able to fish there in a matter of months if they get some snow as well...

Just ride a snowmobile at 200 mph and you won't need to worry about ice.
