Ice anchor preferance?

I would like to hear what folks have to say about their preferance of ice anchors. I have a shapell and like the hut, but I dont like the anchors. They take a lot of pressure to get them started. I think they should have a little bigger threads to allow it to grip better and start easier. I am looking for some new ones. Anyone feel the same?

Have you try using a rubber hammer to bang it into the ice before you start twisting it? It seems like the hard part is just to get it started. Or you can get the Eskimo ice anchors, my friend like it a lot and it looks like it is easier to use.

right on. they're pricey but they are so much nicer than those fine thread ones. you'll like how easy they are to screw in.

Thanks Clint, these are the ones I have seen and liked just didn't remember who made them...

I use 4"-5" lag bolts driven into pre-drilled holes. The bolts go through a turnbuckle, which is tied to a short length of rope, the other end of which is tied to an eybolt secured to the floor of the hut by a huge dry-wall toggle. It works great and cost maybe around $10 total.

I bought some 6" lag bolts, put 'em on the grinder to make a sharp point, and they work great. I predrilled a hole on the inside corners of the shanty. I use a large round washer at the base and then hammer in the lag bolts. When I'm ready to leave, I just use a speed ratchet to zip the lag bolts out of the ice. This anchor system has kept my shelter secure in some very fierce winds.

Yeah, but does it hold in the winds at Jefferson? I guess it does,.we're still alive today!
It also doesn't hurt,..to secure one's shanty to a snowmobile. Or in the case of Rad and jclay,..simply go to shore, and grab some 20 pound boulders, to secure the shanty.
