I stopped by around noon today. Was surprised to see a cap on the whole lake except in the middle west of north shore boat dock. Talked to the ranger and she said that it froze last night for the first time. It didnt last very long by 4 it was breaking up everywhere.
Big ice sheets west near sucker cove and east near coyotie ridge. I would give it a week. Ice was only 1 - 2 inches thick. If you got out becareful it was hot and calm out all day today. No wind at all. Soft spots every where. Wait a week and stay dry.

For all that are going out this weekend, watch out for soft ice. If the lake freezes and then snow falls on it, it wont freeze as it would with out the snow.

HUH? There are people already out ice fishing the Mile. Just as in years past, once it caps, its fishable ice in a matter of a day or two!! And with the temps the remainder of the week, it'll be 4-6" easy by the weekend.
