Default K, I've done this one before...

being that I'm now fitty2 years old, not smokin anymore so hopefully that's gonna help, "What's In Your Sled?". I was carryin gas auger, 6 man tent, heater, buckets, vex. Today for draggin I narrowed it down to 3 man tent, hand 6" auger, heater, buckets, vex. Figure all the big gear's gonna be power dragged on at least the ATV from now on. I slowly drag a Jetsled, not all in one. I have yet to grasp but fully understand the need for a spud. How heavy should a spud be? Make my own or buy one? Didn't like the one's for sale. S00000...what's in your sled? I'm figurin I'm savin at least 25lbs in mine.

two rods
throw bag (rope in a bag for emergencies)
dove stool
tackle box
Vex
6" auger
extra set of gloves
little cooler with vittles & libations
bucket o' minnows when appropriate
Jet sled cover

That's it for me.....I've decided a shelter isn't worth it for what I do and if I do decide to get one in future years, then it's going to be a flipover....except the last time I had one it weighed too much for pulling and lifting into the truck so I'm not sold on that idea completely.

Colonative, I've got a homemade spud bar that weighs 6 1/2 lbs. and I never go on the ice without it.I found an old axe head at a yard sale and welded a piece of 1/2" rigid pipe on it.I keep it razor sharp and have cut through 20" of ice when the starter cord broke on my auger.

heres how i see it, the weight you save by taking the hand auger is pointless, you are better off taking the extra weight and not having to drill 2+ holes by hand

Hm, Mark, that's an interesting one. Lemme ask, what size and type of gas auger do you haul?

We have a 8" Strike Lite and almost all the weight is in the powerhead. Today, almost all the weight was from the Vexilars (we had 2 with us today between 3 people - Bradd hauled the sled out, hubby carried Vexilars in the buckets, then Vexes went back on the sled when hubby hauled it back), the auger, one Jet sled, bait pucks, tackle, and rod case. I carried the buckets and 2 of us had the backpacks - I carried the tackle pack and hubby had the food backpack.

Y'know, ever consider taking an extra bag full of *helium* to lighten it up a touch?

i take way to much stuff, but i will not fish outside of my shelter really hardly ever, visibility is just wayyyy to important to me....we arent living in the 70's anymore and there is so much fancy technology out right now to make you more comfortable and successful, why not use it...
