Default Bluegill through the ice?

Does it happen? I've never caught a bluegill through the ice but think it would be fun to get into them on the ice. Also where?

Haven't pulled a 'gill out yet, but St. Vrain ponds had plenty (well, IMO 5+" is plenty) of ice on some of the ponds. We fished there on Tuesday, but don't count on safe ice just yet with all the warmer weather. Call ahead and find out what conditions are.

There's bluegill recently stocked in Redtail. There are lots of 'gills also in Sandpiper, and we've gotten sunfish from Coot, plus perch from Pintail.

A little chartreuse jig with a small mealworm might just be the ticket. Twitch it above the weeds. Orange might do the trick too.

Boyd has some bigguns (caught some last year) and heard St. Vrain has them too.
