Default Help New Line on Reel

Trying to put some ice line I bought (3lb) onto a spinning reel. Can't seem to figure out how to get a knot to stay around the base of the reel to get it started. No knot seems to hold and/or it breaks immediately when pulling tight. Help Please?

See if i can explain this for you.

I saw and have tied a few knot by using two overhand knots
1- tie a overhand knot on very end of line
2- wrap line around reel and tie another over hand with line that goes around reel.
3- pull tight and trim.

The 1st overhand should not be able to be pulled threw the 2nd knot. Just be sure to keep a little presure on the 2nd knot when pulling so it does not open up. I think this knot is shown on some of the berkley line boxes.

Good luck
JT

The knot campingkids is describing is called the arbor knot. To see a graphic of how it works, go to:

A good hard pull on a knot in 3 lb line is probably not the thing to do. Just snug it up to the spool and let the layers of line cover it up.

Use the arbor knot described above and wet the line with saliva before pulling the knot tight. Tighten the wetted knot with a slow steady pull.

Sometimes I'll slap a small piece of black electrical tape over the knot.
