In the past I've heard about sketchy ice conditions at Gross due to the water level changes. Any input would be appreciated. Slayer, can you take a snowmobile on Gross?

No snowmobiles, and a lot of the bad ice is a result of high wind blowing it off the lake.

ive fished gross several times in the past, talo is correct the ice is some what sketchy. be verry careful if you go. but on the bright side ive allways done well for the macks just nothing big, wich surprises me cause of the lack of pressure, could be i just dont know the lake well enough to find them, and my fear of venturing too far.

Have ice fished Gross many times, like it cause it's close. One of my favorite mackinaw lakes. Like littlemac said, lots of small macks, but my biggest is 24 inches. There are some hogs in there, wish I knew enough about Gross to get them. Ice can be the scariest of all front range lakes, but just be cautious, like all lakes, and you should be allright. Biggest problem for me, is the clear, snowless ice, and the 30 mph+winds, get ready for some super ice sliding!(lost two hats). Great lake, little fishing pressure. Last year, talking to some guys coming off the lake, the hottest fishing was in the river channel at 100 feet. Too deep for me, don't know if my line goes that far! Most of my fish were at 40-50 feet of water. Didn't freeze last year til almost Feb. Took my dog there the middle of Jan., with all my ice gear, and the lake was open, no ice. Had a good walk with the pup.
