Default Protect the Boundary Waters

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is one of those places most of us believe will stay pristine and wild forever. It's America's most visited Wilderness area, enjoyed by millions of fishermen and boaters every year. But that could change if we let the U.S. Forest Service renew mining leases that could destroy it.

Take Action – sign the petition to protect this iconic place. To have your name counted, visit our petition page and sign by Friday, July 8th.

What’s at stake? An industrial series of sulfide-ore copper mines could be allowed to renew operations on the edge of the wilderness area. Pollution from these mines will flow directly into the heart of the Boundary Waters, increasing acidity to dangerous levels and wiping out fish and other wildlife. Learn more.

The mining companies can “promise” that a disaster won’t occur, but in the history of sulfide mining, damaging pollution has never been avoided. Is that a chance you want to take?

CLICK HERE to sign the petition through our automated system. It only takes a minute, but will make an important difference.

UPDATE: The Petitions Have Been Delivered

Keep America Fishing, along with a coalition of several concerned sportsmen and outdoor groups, delivered over 72,000 petition signatures to the U.S. Forest Service. That's huge! And a major outpouring of support to save the Boundary Waters.

Now, we wait for the Forest Service to deliberate and decide their next steps. They could ask for more public input. If so, we'll be asking for your help again.

We will keep you informed once we know.
