Default First Flies-Noob style.

Got a cheapy tying kit for xmas from the folks. I wasnt even thinking of starting to tie until a few years from now, when I can actually fly fish properly. But I thought I'd mess around for a little bit until the kit material runs out.

Had to run to the shop to get a whip finish, some foam and some head cement.
Ive had a fly tying book for a while, used it for a reference.
In order I tied 1 of each:
EHC
Wooly Bugger
Para Adams (which was looking great until I ruined the post while wrapping the hackle )
Some weird thing with dubbed and foam body
Spun elk body something or other

Im only posting the ones that came out semi decent....althought the EHC was ok too

Reeeaally tiny for a bugger but this was before I remembered I had larger hooks laying around (kit only came with size 12-16)

Me just messing around. If I had lighter thread this things butt would look better

Last night I tied some more spun bodies and foam n SJ junk stuff on larger hooks.
Tonight I'll get back to the basics for good measure, then probly shelve it. I dont feel right tying when I can barely pull a fish on the long rod.....maybe I'll get a few more materials and stock up on EHC's and some other easy ones during the winter. Who knows.

Pretty darn fun tho I gotta say .

That "micro bugger" will catch brookies in high lakes, and that foam monstrocity will catch fish too as a hopper! Nice job.

Looks like you kept the hook eyes pretty clear too. That can be a hurdle at first.

I shudder to think of my first few ties, they make your first attempts look like something from Kimo's vice.

You've made a good start and are definitely on the path, but the single best thing you can do to rapidly improve your tying is to get a more experienced tyer to show you the ropes for an hour or two. You'll be amazaed at how quickly you improve.
