Default A Simple Ongoing Fly Swap Idea

Jesus, I missed the whole 6 pages of fly swap drama until this evening; jealous I'm not in it. But with my damn schedule, 40 some flies of the same pattern would be torture for me.

Here is what I'm proposing for the future of fly swaps.

How about you pick your best/favorite/go-to pattern that you would enjoy tying and share with your fellow Colorado anglers, OK the guy from Texas with the hat counts too, and do an even trade for another persons best/favorite/go-to pattern.

Post a pic of that fly and a description of how and where you fish it and the sizes you can tie it in. Then, sit back and wait for someone to offer a trade with you for their pattern that they have posted; a dozen per trade. If what they are offering rocks your boat, then trade on. PM each other with addresses and all that. If not, politely decline the trade and keep searching for the pattern that get's you all excited and offer a trade. Maybe a separate permanent thread can be set up with a pic and description of everyone's pattern.

This will address a few areas mentioned in the "holiday mega swap of 2011" that have come up:
1.If someone ties up thread midges and wants to trade, they need to wait for a schmuck to come along and ask for some thread midges. It may happen.

2.Guys like me can obtain a dozen of a pattern that is missing from their box. Some patterns, like wet flies, I just can't get into tying and learning about those feathers, but I'm dying to fish them. I'd rather swap for some instead of buying them, ya know.

3.Tying a dozen flies of your go-to pattern as often as you want to trade them for other patterns allows for people with not a lot of free time to participate in a swap as often, or as little, as they like.

4.It's something different. I liked waiting to see what showed up in the mail after last winter's midge tie and they were all great patterns. I think I still have two flies left from that swap. This idea is a way to build up your box with effective patterns that you are sure you need/want.

So, how does this sound? I just thought of it like 10 minutes ago so I'm sure there are gaps in the model, so offer suggestions and provide your feedback. If it seems like peeps are interested in it then we can get it going. If not, then you all suck and can go to he...excuse me, I ran our of IPA while typing this email and I'm a bit pissed; mentally, not physically; that's the problem.

... or an online CFF FLy Shop. Like the idea, perhaps we can use the Pattern Archive as the "sales room". Patterns people post there will be for sale/trade at the posters discression.

Every fly i've ever posted on this site is always available for sale or trade, with some propriatary exceptions

If you ever need any flies, custom or otherwise - [email protected]
