Default First attemp

Ok I finally gave tying a try. This is my first tying attemp. I don't have a fly tying book so I just made one up as I went. It is on a size 16 hook. The whip finisher was a pain in the ass to figure out but I finally got it. After looking at it I keep seeing things I should have done different as far as placement of everything.

Shoot - for your first go at it, I think you've done pretty good. As far as needing books, I don't believe so but it's pretty cool to have around when you don't want to sit in front of your computer to learn. With that said, there are a ton of youtube video's out there that walk you through pretty much every possible tying technique out there.

Just an FYI, it's addictive so hide your wallet!

Charlie's Shop is in Arvada, this is is site link above. Tutorials on a lot of flies that would work for you in Colorado. Very thorough, and he also has a nice beginner's tying book. Cheers!

Youtube and Charlies website are great ways to learn some stuff. Honestly though, I seriously thing Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying is the one book you should invest in. Work through it from beginning to end.

I have tied flies for close to 20 years and I learned so much from that book.

I can't believe I forgot about Charlie's. I know that is where I learned a ton.

hey man, I have to ask... wait.. first of all great first fly! Ok, now I gotta ask. What are the two grizzly feathers there for? The reason I ask is because it looks like to me you tied a good adams other than those two feathers sticking out?

Thanks.  They are there for no reason, just practicing tying different stuff. I couldn't get them to sty center of the hook. Now that I look at them they are way longer than I thought they were.
