Default Al Troth

Dude died recently I read. Invented the Elk Hair Caddis. RIP.

Pretty cool: my buddy who got me into fishing recently brought me a hand drawn and typed fly tying manual from one of Al Troth's clinics in Montana back in the 80's. I guess his dad went. The first page is a diagram of a deer hide divided into 10 or more sections with a list of what flies are best for that particular hair.

Elk Hair caddis is the first tie, pretty much the same as people these days demo how to tie it. I'd love to post some pics of the way people used to learn how to tie before the damn internet vids. maybe I'll get to that.
