My friend Frank Prekel turned me on to these. Ties up ridiculously fast. He found these when visiting one of his favorite local fly shops and the 'new fly guy' was by with the new patterns that work for the season...
Double Ice Cream Cone - 2 scoops is better than 1!
When to fish - when the midges (chironomids) are poppin
How to fish - emergers rise straight up - recreate this action, and you'll have fish on
Hook: TMC 200R, this was tied on a size 12. Or similar curved shank nymph hook.
Bead(s): 2mm Hot Bead (tungsten) in white, or similar brass beads painted white
Thread: 70 Denier UTC in red and black
Rib: small silver Ultra Wire or small silver round tinsel.
Add both beads to hook and clamp hook in vise. Start your red thread, work it down about halfway down the shank - think approximately how long you want to space this as you're tying 2 'bodies' on the same hook. Tie in your ribbing material, and create a 'body' in smooth, even wraps. Rib to bead and whip finish. Slide the second bead up to the bottom of the red 'body' and then tie in your black thread, and create the second 'body' the same way. You'll now have 2 flies on the same hook.
Too easy! What a cool pattern!
