Default ? on TM for Pontoons

I have a CC SX1 8' Pontoon with Trolling Motor mount.

I got a deal too good to pass on for a drive system and it came with a Motor Guide VMaxx 55 lb thrust varible speed Trolling Motor.

? is -is this too much or does the Variable Speed compensate for size.

How are the Varible Motors on Battery consumption compared to Speed Selected.

Thanks for all who are way more knowledgable than I.

that wil keep you out of trouble in the w but if you run it hard will eat up battery life.

Default Battry Life Varible Controlled TM compared to Set Speed TM

Just wondering if there are any energy consumption issues between the two ??
