Default Live well/Cutting board

I'm building a live well out of a large Coleman cooler--electric pump, PVC aeration pipe, the works. The top/lid of the thing tapers to exactly 14"x32". I thought, "Let's turn the top of it into a bait cutting/fish fileting board!".

I want to get a nice single piece of wood an inch thick by 14" by 32".

Any of you guys who deal with building materials happen to know what a piece like this would cost? I know a 14" board is no joke, but not unheard of. Type of wood doesn't really matter but I would prefer a hardwood.

Home Depot didn't have anything in 14" and I don't want to use plywood. If it is cost-prohibitive, I might consider making a two-piece top, but I would really like to go with a single piece.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cool My II Cents

A single piece of board that big will be hard to find and not cheap. I also think it will be prone to warping and cracking.
Plywood is available, cheap and will work. You can buy plywood that has an oak ply on it and other types of wood ply are available.
What ever you use treat the wood with mineral oil. Put a few coats on it before mounting. Mineral oil will not get sticky or turn foul so it is good for wood cutting boards, butcher block counters etc.
Mineral oil can be hard to find some times, the last time I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Owen,

I had to fix the transom on my boat here is the thread.

https://www.coloradofisherman.com/for...direction.html

I looked at a lot of different materials and Steve and Terri came up with the best two options in Steve's concrete form plywood (incredibly tough), I remember he said he found a piece that had floated around in Granby for a long time and it was pretty unfazed. Terry suggested some plastic that they use for boat decking...there are lots of plastic sheet manufacturers and sellers on the web you just have to search...here is terri's...

If you make a cutting board look into ironwood...

I made one that was very similar to redleader's. I used the urethayne product and think you will be way better off vs. wood... it is a bit lighter and way easier to clean. It's crazy how close to Redleader's mine was!!! It mounted on top of a chair pedestal, so it could move throughout the boat.

Attach a poly cutting board to it with a long enough cord so you can toss it in the water to rinse it off.
You wood idea is classy and nice etc. Its heavy, maintenance intensive and won't help your fishing

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll definitely take them all into consideration and come up with something serviceable.

I really like wood, but it may not be the most practical thing here.

GRACIAS
