Default Frabel Worm Bedding

Just bought some. I am experimenting with all kinds of different crawler harnesses Slow Death, etc. Tired of the mess!! How much water goes on the bedding, it does't say? How wet? What consistentsy is right?

Get it thoroughly wet and grab a big hunk of it and squeeze out the excess water...kinda make big meatballs with the excess water squeezed out...and then crumble it up in your container...I have seen some brands say use dechlorinated water...I always did that just incase...

yeah that black canada dirt on crawlers makes a hell of a mess. Neal I take and clean up the crawler out in the lawn throw them back into container and let them swim in clean water for a douche then into the bedding.

I cleaned off two dozen yesterday before I fished. I really like the Frabel bedding!!! Anything you spill just drys up and gets blown away next trip!

if you take a pitcher and fill it about half full of tap water then let it sit a couple of days uncovered it works fine. I bought 100 crawlers and had around 50 on hand at the end of apr. for the first tourney, we used some at t-dad and the tourney at pueblo and several days till last week. before we went out last week I counted 76 crawlers still fat and sassy. now that the trolling bite is picking up, I don't think they will last much longer, rigging and pulling cranks will take over now.

Frabill and Great Bear make nice bedding. When it rains, place buckets under the water spouts. Then pour that water in with the bedding. I have bought two flats this year and I am just about out. I go through a lot of crawlers. There needs to be some ventilation on the bottom of your container. Not the one you keep in your boat, but in your bait/beer/leech fridge in the garage. Once you get a couple of crawlers that die, that is bad. They all go tits up.

What is interesting is you can keep leeches in the worm bedding too. They do well with a 50/50 mixture as long as you keep them around 40 degrees. Here is a good tip. Hagen's Sport out of Mitchell, SD make an nice worm box. I used to place ice cubes in it, but recently went to the Dollar Tree and for a buck found a perfect fitting ice pack. I clean it out after every trip and then repack it with fresh crawlers and cryo packs for the next trip.

When you use Great Bear, if you get any of it in your boat, it dries up and blows out when you go home. No dirt or mess. Cleaning crawlers with water is good and gets that black dirt off them. But make sure your water is not fresh from the tap. JMO.

Never use `raw` tap water. At the very least let it stand overnite in a bucket. I can think of no other way of killing worms quicker than to add tap water to the mix. Chlorine in tap water will kill them overnite !
