fixing a broken rod

had to do an accident avoidance manuver that popped the handle off my cooler and sent it crashing into my rod and broke the top 8" off my rod. it's a cabela's ML spinning combo that I think cost $79 or 89 for rod and reel. I don't like to just throw things away but it's also not an expensive rod. I really like it in original condition. is it worth trying to fix? if I fix it is it likely to still feel like original?

I've broken tips off before... almost the same Cabelas Rod, too..
Taper whats left of the good end with some sandpaper...
Remove the broken rod remnant from the tip...
Drill out the tip...
Super Glue back in place and wrap some black thread around it...
Glue the thread, also...
It'll work great, just not as like new....

just making sure I understand what you're saying....are you having me instert the broken bit into the new drilled out bit or just shorten the rod by putting the tip eyelet thing on the now shorter main rod?

Yes. You will have a shorter rod tip, depending on how much You originally broke off.
It "may" not work... IF the NEW tip is too close the the next rod guide...
In My case, I broke off ONLY about 3" from the original tip.

You can buy a new tip at Bass Pro or E-bay will sell you a box of them for the same price.

I bought a box of new tips, mix of sizes for about $6 and use it more often than I would of thought. Action on the repaired rod will of course be different if you can live with that. I use epoxy for the repair.

Dont have to drill out the old tip. Hold it with pliers and heat with a lighter. The glue melts and it pops off.
