Default Strike King KVD Square Bill 1.5 & 2.5

I got interested in this crank bait after watching KVD demo it on one of the Strike King "Fish Hard" TV programs. Looks like most of the major fishing outlets are now listing this bait as available.

Anybody have this lure, or have formed an opinion about it?

SK has really stepped their game up their hard baits. The KVD sq bill catches the snot out of them and has a nice low price point. Pick some up and grind them into shallow cover and see what happens...

I have this lure, and have formed an opinion about it. Don't get it.

I have some KVDsquare bills-I throw them where I would normally throw a spinnerbait. But to be honest, most times I think a spinnerbait will get you more bites.

Thanks Kirby! I was just about to ask if you fish them where you fish spinnerbaits!

I have an area at Smith Mountain at the very back of my sisters cove that has a huge grass bed. The weeds top off about two feet below the surface. Really hard to keep jerkbaits or spinnerbaits with any weight at all out of the weeds. I tried a buzzbait to no avail

Burn a Rattle Trap over the top?

Burn a trap over the top and pop the rod whenever you feel it fowling. As far as the squarebill, fishing it like a spinnerbait is spot-on. It works great in shallow stump and boulder fields, and even around brush. If it hangs, usually just a slack line and a little jiggle will free it. I also rip it like a jerkbait on occasion, pausing in the thick cover. It shines in that you can pause the retrieve for a second or two and it'll just hang there for a second or two. That's what separates it from a spinnerbait. You can also wake them and stop.

That and let it flutter down about 2in below weeds and rip it out. Think of it as a fish playing cat and mouse. Up and down. Ive seen bass absolutely crush my lures doing that. I recommend a H action rod though.

A lipless is definitely the way to go. Only thing I'd add is throw it on braid-it will pull free of the weeds way better and the weeds won't foul the crank.
