Advice

I am working on a nice rod for myself finally and can't decide if I should keep the fine detail I'm wrapping on the larger guides towards the reel, on the small wraps towards the tip. I have attached a pic of the wrap.

Oh ya, the last three guides will be single foot micro's.

Just my 2, but I think understated, almost austere aesthetic underscores the purpose of any tool very well. To that end I would personally keep the elaborate wraps to a minimum. If you feel like the rod will look better with a crazy wrap or two, keep them limited to the first and second guide.

So many custom rods I have seen look like they were built by Navajo indians on a peyote bender.

Tacky. ::)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...hysterical.gif I admire the skill and patience it takes to do that intricate wrapping, but it's not my cup of tea. I'm a fan of simple and clean. To each his own.

As much as I can lay down some nice wraps, I keep mine simple, my best rods are all solid color wraps, the others have all been sold.

You and my buddy mackaddict do some really pretty work! I think the term is "mad skillz".

Also, try putting the picture up again.

Agreed. Simple. Never caught a fish that cared much about the wraps on the guides of the rod. ;D

Good points, I think I will keep the complex wraps limited to the first couple guides, it gets much harder to wrap and harder to see after the first couple guides on the size rods I do most anyway. Thanks everyone.

I say wrap it the way your creative heart pulls you. Why ask us? This is for you! If you want you could do a tie die wrap heheheh

I agree... I know Solomon loves plain, and I others like fancy... Myself, I like performance, with just a touch of flare....Koldkut has made me three rods with great handles that have pretty modest wraps, but they do have a band in em.... I love em.

Bottom line, it's for you man!
