I, along with all my customers (except Don!) have been using rods I build from Mudhole IM6 Blanks. They're cheap. Have only broke one out of eight, and the one that broke a year ago was on the first hook-set, so it was defective. The other 7 have landed lakers up to 45 pounds this year, with lots in the 30's, and more 5-30's than I can count. They work. I have over 100 days on some of them. I have both spinning and casting, built on the same blanks. I buy the 7-footers and cut them down. Where I cut them is a trade secret for now, but you can cut one to get exactly the "action" you want, which is the beauty of it. I have 3 different cuts for 3 different actions.

Mackaddict taught me everything I know about rod building, which isn't much, but its working like a charm!

I love my rods made from those blanks. I just like to keep a couple more feet attached.

I use Penn Slammers because of the smooth drag, durability, and if I need parts, they're easy to find. It they'll handle 100+ pound tarpon in salt, they'll surely handle any old lake trout on the planet. Slammers, and Shimano Calcutta bait casters, are all that gets taken on my boat.

Smooooth.

Oh yeah. They are great, especially for the money. I have used my Penn SS850 to catch yellowtail amberjack and cuda and what not in Cali and then I'll turn around and use it to huck bait to striper and catfish in lake meade.

Who makes the blank? If it's the right one, I might take it.
