Default Marine Battery Performance

I have a two year old group 24 Marine battery I use with a 30lb trolling motor on a 11 foot canoe.

When I first bought the battery I could slow troll 3-4 hours. now I'm lucky if I get 2 hrs. I had it tested and the battery checked out as "good".
Could it be a problem with the trolling motor or should I just by a new bigger battery?

Thanks for the help I always get good advice on Colorado Fishing Forum

Wet cell? Hows the water level in the cells? If low, add distilled water.

Check for mono wrapped around the prop.
That will reduce time from the battery too.

Upgrade to an Absorbed Glass Mat battery. They can handle deep discharges better without much damage.

Go below 8 volts on a deep cycle and you will kill the battery a little at a time each time you do it.

My dad loves to run over the lines while trolling. My sister always thinks a big one lol.

Is your group 24 marine battery a deep cycle or a starting battery? "Marine" as far a I know just means that the plates are attached both top and bottom and can be Starting, Deep Cycle or Dual Purpose. It seems if it was a deep cycle you should be able to get more than 3-4 hours of slow trolling, especially in a canoe. If it's a starting only it would probably only last a couple of years as a trolling motor battery but if it's a deep cycle it should last for 4-5 years, I would think. Of course this depends on if the battery gets fully recharged after each use and the water level is kept up in the cells.
A group 27 Deep Cycle only battery should allow you to troll all day and even have some left for the second day if you are camping. I've had luck with the $100.00 Wal Mart batteries and really like the 24 month straight exchange if it fails waranty.

If you run a 30 lb trust on full you will discharge the battery way sooner than if you run a 55 lb at 1/2 or 2/3 full. Get a bigger TM and you can troll all day.

Biggest mistake I see people make is getting to small a TM.

Nobody ever said "my TM is too strong, wish I'd gotten a weaker one".
