2-3 hours you can cover alot of ground... what type of vehicle do you drive? I know a couple places out by westcliffe, Buena Vista, Leadville, Salida, ect.... but alot of the areas require high clearence but not 4wd.

i second ePiC

also how far are you willing to walk/hike. there are several that have good fishing in the previously mentioned area that you can park a yugo at the trail head and then hike in several miles some do this as a day hike but i prefer atleast an over nighter

your other option is to budy up with some one that has a 4X4 and make a go at it

but even with 4X4 you will need to walk a bit for the really good cuttys i just got back from a 4X4 trip to a high mountain lake over 6 miles of jeep trail steep lose tight big drops and stream crossings well over 4 hours on the trail and while i did catch 20-30 cutts in a few hours not much size and fishing it from shore would have been futile we covered lots of ground in the canoe
i have had better cutt fishing with a four hour walk from a trail head
let me know if you want to give it a whorl i am just west of pueblo in the mountains and could use a could cutty trip before the ice sets in

I have a chevy cavalier which made it to where the rocks start on Hermit pass and I started to hike but couldnt find the lake. I hear their are some lakes in Salida that have cutty's and can be accessed by 2- wheel drive cars? walking/hiking wise I am willing to hike maybe an hour.

it is a pretty long walk from where the rocks start into hermit and there are VERY FEW cutts in hermit i have only caught 2 or 3 but there are tons of brookies if you continue past hermit to horseshoe there should be some cutts in there but if you can do that hike in an hour your superman it takes me a couple hours to drive it

if you want to keep the hike around an hour and find cutts then i think your going to need to budy up with someone with 4X4 you can drive within a couple hundred yards of horseshoe whith 4wheel drive and there are others

good luck and let me know if you want to try horseshoe i been thinking of taling the tubes up there sometime
