Default WILLIOW PONDs, WIPERS ?

I was in fountain, doing a little ultralight fishing and I noticed that the signs at the lake said they contained "wipers", my question is has anyone caught any wipers recently from those little ponds ?..That would be fun on 2-4lb test LOL

Sorry PSB for no input on the ponds not familiar with the area enough. Hopefully some of the guys from that area will chime in.

Wipers are a kick!

Meh! I don't get the light gear => more fun mentality. You are just going to exhaust those wipers and waste your time. If you don't intend to release that wiper, disregard the first part of that last sentence. Wipers are know to fight to exhaustion. A light line is only going to make matters worse. For the second part, wipers usually come in schools and where you find one, there are usually more. Get the fish in quickly and catch another one. Don't fight the fish for 20 minutes and miss the opportunity to catch more. Better to match the line to the fish. For wipers, I usually go with 12lb line. I have caught wipers on 6lb line. It's no fun (to me). Get the bigger line and apply some pressure on those fish. Feel a real tug on the line, instead of a light fizzle on a 2-4lb line. My not so humble opinion.

I fish there regularly. Usually every day on my lunch break. If you see a guy wearing a tie/slacks/dress shoes with a fly rod in his hand, it's probably me. I'm usually fishing for bluegill with my 00wt, but I have seen trout and a huge carp caught out of them there ponds but I've never seen a wiper. good luck

Lunch hours are a great time to fish aren't they!

If you don't get it you don't get it.

I've packed all my MH and M weight spinning rods already. These past 2 weeks have been UL only. I gotta tell ya, it has really been a blast. On my M weight Ugly Stik, that 9" gill would have flown out of the water. On my slow action UL, it was a real blast, mang. Same with the 18" carp from the WD40 contest.

The carp took me for a couple nice runs, and I'm glad it was on UL gear.

You like beer with ice? I drink bourbon straight from the bottle. To each their own as they say...
