Are there any good Pike and Musky fisheries near the metro area?

and one last questions for you pike/musky guys, why are muskies so much harder to get into then Pike? or is just me.

the rocky mountain arsenal , its ok for pike havent been there for awhile , big surface lures like a zara spooks , also swimbaits and tube jigs work well , musky are smarter then pike , ive caught afew out of pinewood , anything that resemebles a trout will work well for musky

Quincy Res. for Muskie! Fish make up most of the diet of both species, but Pike however are more aggresive feeders, striking most anything that comes into view. Muskies size up their prey more carefully, lying dormant until the moment is right, then attacking quickly. When Pike and Muskie are finicky, nothing triggers more strikes than real food. For fish over ten pounds, you should have lively baitfish at least 8 inches long. Cherry Creek Res. has both species and are difficult to catch because of the abundant forage.

Dan, I was surprised as well...went to the State Parks web site and under the "Things to do" tab and fishing section, Pike are listed.

They also have Paku

Thanks Fishaholic for the info. I wonder if they stocked them to control the carp (especially big head that was found there) population. I usually discount the shallow side of the lake but it sounds like I need to be spending more time on that side.

I heard there used to be a lot more pike in cherry creek than there are now. Just second-hand info though.

I haven't heard of a pike being caught at Cherry Creek for at least 12-15 years. They never were abundant in there.

I've not seen any Pike in the walleye nets. I have seen big Muskie in them nets though (40" +/-) at CC.
