Default Any good fishing out east (near I-70)???

So I am heading out to Flaggler (25 mi. east of Limon) for antelope this weekend.*

Thought I could use this as a chance to fish a new area.* Anyone know of any good lakes out east along I-70?

Bonny Lake- North of Burlington

Bonny has walleye, northern pike, freshwater drum, white bass, wiper, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish.

You might stop by Flagler Reservoir State Wildlife Area near Flagler. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I've been out there. At that time, the water level was really low but they had a species of catfish in the lake I hadn't heard of. I can't remember the species though. It looked like it could be productive - a warmwater lake. I only stopped for a couple of hours and caught a couple of those catfish (I think they were about 12 inches). If there's small ones, then there has to be big ones - especially 3 or 4 years later.

Looked like if the water level was right, it could be great habitat for all of the warmwater fish we have around Colorado.

Something to explore

Flager lake "home of the state record american eel" has been dried up for the last few years. Used to have good bullhead and catfish. Bonny has slowed, but if you go focus on the damn. The best part of the damn is on the north end, it is a bit of a walk, but the best I think. The north shoreline where it meets the damn is good as well. There is also hale ponds near Bonny that hold some nice bass and they usually stock it with trout every year, so there should be some left in there as well.

Burlington is 40 miles east of Flagler and Bonny is 20 miles north of Burlington, so about 1hr from where you will be.

That's a shame. I didn't know it had dried up. From the structure I saw, definately had potential. If only we could get some water in it

I think they were black bullhead but I can't remember for sure.

LOL yes, tons of bullheads. Bonny is in pretty bad shape as well. I remember when the republican flooded over hwy 385 for about 1/2 mile. Dead cows floating in the res., the marina under water. Water was so stained and had floating debris in it for weeks. Used to get awesome thunderstorms out there, and now they are begging for any rain. Sure hope it's truly just a drought and it comes back.

You could swing by Karval Lake and catch 8 billion trout!

It won't ever be back. Water table is too low. Many in the know expect it to be totally dry within 5 years.
