Default What's a wedding ring

Besides the one on my finger, what the heck is a wedding ring setup composed of? I hear about them, but never know what anyone is talking about.

A Wedding Ring is a spinner with a centered ring on the shaft that is encrusted with glass chips to make it look like a wedding ring. the beads on either side of the ring are either red or green (at least those are the colors i've seen). Simple little spinner set-up. Most tackle shops carry them or a variation of them. just ask the clerk.

They are more properly called wedding ring spinners, and I believe the name is copyrighted by the Mack's Lure company. They come in many different colors, and with single or treble hooks. Some have glow-in-the-dark hooks and there are other variations as well.

Here is a link to the manufacturer's web site.

A lot of people use these for kokanee, and sometimes for lake trout, but I also catch an awful lot of rainbow trout on them while trolling for kokanee. Way more than I want.

BTW, if you post questions like this under Fishing Reports, the mods will just move it to Colorado Fishing, so you might as well post 'em there in the first place.

I have found a wedding ring to be very versatile. They can be used for more than kokes and lakers. I have used them successfully on walleye, trout, white bass. Tip them with crawlers, leeches or minnows. and fish to your hearts content!

Is a wedding ring made more for trolling or can it be used from shore.

They are made for trolling, but with a small modification you could cast them from shore and they should behave as well as any other spinner.

The modification? They come with a 4 foot leader built-in. You would probably want to change that, for casting.

One thing I like about the wedding rings, they will spin at low speeds. When trolling with an electric trolling motor, I can get down to 0.3-0.4 mph (way below walking speed) and the spinner still turns over quite well.

Mack's does make a casting spinner (http://www.mackslure.com/Results.asp?category=14). It is called the Promise keeper. Smile blades are like a plastic coated propeller, the add alot of flash and vibration on the front end of the lure.
