Haven't been there this year, but last year and other times around this time of year, my best luck has been at Soap Creek Arm along the cliffs for lakers and rainbows. At the point in front of the arm between Soap Creek and West Elk for Kokanee and drifiting from Lake Fork to the bridge for kokes.
This year has been a little cooler than usual...I've found that the last week in October (this week or next anyway) is when they start winterizing and shutting down the showers and running water. Usually Elk Creek Campground still has some running water but plan accordingly.
Just drove by this past weekend while going up elk hunting.. The river is pretty much walk across-able, meaning The water level is pretty much down.. There are Pools all over though and this may spark a good fishing trip.. Good luck and be safe. I hear that its suppose to snow pretty bad out there in a few days, so the Temps out there will forsure decline..
