This thread is not only about saving big Lakers but has a bunch of great info in the thread it's self!

I put this together just for fun to see how many people would support the idea. You don't have to sign it with your real name if you don't want to. You can use your forum name.

Unfortunately Jay, us Lake trout guys (and gals, sorry Terre) are a minority. Even in northern Canada alot of people would rather fish for 'eyes and Northerns even when they are cruising right over the top of some huge Lakers.

People are lazy. It requires some extra clicks. And there may be other folks who would support some sort of slot (perhaps mandatory release of all fish 28-36 inches?) but might not be in favor of mandatory release of all +30" fish. Just a thought.

Lazy I can deal with. If people just dont care about protecting one of the biggest, longest living fish we have here than I see this as a big problem. I guess protecting a 14in Koke is more of a concern than a 30lb Mac.

IMO

30" lakers are in no danger from me. In the unlikely event that I hook one, I probably won't land it. In the extremely unlikely event that I land it, what in the heck would I do with 30" worth of trout?

Sorry I've been out of town... and my computer at home died a terrible death... I ordered a new one but it won't be here for a couple more weeks. So, once my kids hit the hay - its no surfing for me as my 9 year old is the only one in the house with a working computer.

Back to the topic, we need both, Kokanee and Big Lakers, Lakers don't get to be big lakers without something fairly big to eat.

Well we're up to 30. Are there really only 30 people on this site that thing big, Colorado lake trout should be protected and released?

i'm too lazy, but I agree with you jay...however, your all over 30" must be released is bs. I would be much more supportive of a slot, such as the one in place at twin lakes. I believe a lot of SMALL macks should be harvested.
