Default Monument lake

I'm new to the area and was wondering how fishing was in monument lake near Colorado Springs? What type of fish should I expect to catch? I have a kayak so getting out into the water is no problem

Welcome to the forum.

First step would be to use the search function in the forum.

Don't go there. Yeah there are fish. It's not worth it. Waaaaay too many people. Bobbers and powerbait everywhere. Trash all over. Save yourself the hassle. There's other lakes close by that are more secluded and better kept.

Yakman16 - welcome to the forum

Are you based in COS?

Monument is fun for some quick stocker rainbow action and children but like DocorDooom said it's urban overcrowded fishing....

- As a start I would suggest Rampart Reservoir it is pretty kayak friendly and a bit more up in the mountains. Here is a link for Rampart: http://www.anglerscovey.com/where-to...part-reservoir
- Also look at Upper Catamount Reservoir on Pikes Peak (there are three Crystal, Lower Catamount, and Upper Catamount - Bait is allowed on Crystal and Lower Catamount - upper Catamount is fly and lure only and by far my favorite of the three) Here is a link for the Pikes Peak lakes http://parks.coloradosprings.gov/NorthSlope
- 11 mile is a great place but be careful with the kayak as wind is terrible.
- Next to 11 mile is Spinney reservoir - this is fly and lure only but a great place - winds can be very brutal here as well but on calmer days Spinney and 11 mile are good choices. Here is a link for 11 mile http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/ElevenMile Here is a link for Spinney: http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/SpinneyMountain

For local bass maybe check out Quail Lake, local Walleye (really these are Saugeye) check Pikeview Reservoir. Quail Lake allows kayaks Pikeview is shore only. As Far as local Colorado Springs waters its Monument, Pikeview, Prospect Lake, Quail Lake. These are all small urban fisheries and the stocker trout (slimer) is really king in CO. Where did you come from?

So I guess if I want different fish I would have to travel out of COS. But I came from Maryland which I pretty much could fish for whatever I wanted to there lol

There is also prospect pond in CO Springs.. You can catch or get just about anything you want there......

Monument can be fun with a small boat, you can get away from most of the people and it is close to C-sprgs. There are weed beds with willing sunfish, and a few small bass.

Down south there is pueblo reservoir and brush hollow.
